🏅 Credentials

For nearly 45 years, I have worked as a systems engineer, designing and integrating some of the most complex technologies of our time: manned and unmanned spacecraft, turbofan engines, power turbines, intelligence systems, healthcare platforms, and military systems. My training and practice have always been rooted in one principle: a system is greater than the sum of its parts. That holistic way of thinking has guided me not only in engineering but also in my approach to health and wellness.
I began my career as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in psychology, focusing on social psychology and experimental methods. While serving, I earned a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, concentrating on project management, statistics, and systems engineering. Over the decades, I became an Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP), earned certificates in healthcare information systems, enterprise resource planning, and satellite systems. Nearing retirement, I added another credential: Certified Personal Trainer (NASM), so I could deepen my understanding of fitness and health.
But my journey was not a straight path of professional achievement—it was shaped by immense personal struggle. During my time in combat communications support, I sustained severe cervical spine injuries that left me partially paralyzed on my right side and eventually required a four-level spinal fusion. Prolonged exposure to fuels, solvents, and exhaust left me with severe asthma. Treatments with high-dose steroids caused me to gain over 100 pounds and, in 2003, I was diagnosed with diabetes.
Despite repeated attempts to control my health through diet and exercise, my condition worsened, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. At one point, my HbA1c reached 13.5, and I endured cognitive and emotional impairments from wild swings in blood sugar.

Through persistence, medical advances, and lifestyle changes, I turned my health around. My journey truly began with a return to a Torah life: daily prayer, building a Jewish home, observing Shabbos, and integrating it all with healthy eating, vigorous exercise, and the support of some amazing physicians. With their guidance—including a concierge endocrinologist who completely revised my medications—I was able to stabilize my blood sugar, undergo necessary surgeries, and eventually move to an insulin pump combined with medications such as Mounjaro.

I train regularly with free weights, kettlebells, and high-intensity cardio, and I am fitter now than I was decades ago.

And I still fit into the same Air Force uniform I was wearing on active duty over 40 years ago!

Today, I want to use my personal and professional experiences to help others reclaim their health.
Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon (Maimonides), the great physician and Torah scholar, taught that caring for our physical health is a mitzvah—a commandment from Hashem
"Since maintaining a healthy and sound body is among the ways of Hashem—for it is impossible to understand or have any knowledge of the Creator when one is sick—therefore one must avoid anything that harms the body and accustom oneself to things that heal and fortify it."
The Rambam establishes that physical health is not merely a personal preference but a religious obligation. Caring for our bodies enables us to serve Hashem with full capacity.
"One should set his heart that his body be healthy and strong, so that his soul will be upright to know Hashem. For it is impossible for one to understand the sciences while hungry, sick, or when any of his limbs aches."
Physical wellness directly impacts spiritual and intellectual capacity. The Rambam understood that Torah study and avodas Hashem require a healthy foundation.
"Excessive eating is like a deadly poison to the body and is the root cause of all illness. Most illnesses that afflict man are caused by harmful foods or by eating beneficial foods excessively."
Over 800 years ago, the Rambam identified overeating as a primary cause of disease—a truth that modern research continues to validate.

Rabbi Ya'akov Singer's profound Lefonecho (לפניך) teaching and the Rambam's prescriptions for healthy living converge on a single truth: we cannot stand fully in G-d's presence if we neglect the body He gave us.

As an Orthodox Jew, I believe the body is a vessel on loan from the Creator. But this isn't a uniquely Jewish idea — every major world religion teaches the same truth: physical health is a spiritual obligation. Here's what Judaism, Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, and Hinduism all agree on.
